The former Minister of the Interior during the democratic government, Alexandru Jizdan, has been charged in the Petic case, according to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases. Jizdan, however, has stated for Radio Chisinau that the accusers do not have any conclusive evidence.

Gheorghe Petic, a former border policeman, accused of committing a rape during the government of Vladimir Plahotniuc, was acquitted on November 30, 2021, by the Orhei Court after the prosecutor on the case, Vadim Machedon, withdrew the charges. A month earlier, the alleged victim of the rape for which Petic was accused had withdrawn his accusations and provided details of how the case was fabricated.

As a result, the former deputy head of the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the Ministry of the Interior (SPIA), Vadim Mânzărari, and five other employees of the National Investigation Inspectorate were detained on suspicion of fabricating the rape case against Petic. On March 3, 2022, three other former officials were also detained for their alleged involvement in organizing the fabricated rape case.

The case against Petic was filed during the period when Alexandru Jizdan was in charge of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Republic of Moldova was governed by the Democratic Party led by Vladimir Plahotniuc. Petic was arrested on October 12, 2018, shortly after making public disclosures about the organization of cigarette smuggling across the Prut by the representatives of Plahotniuc's government. He was held in preventive detention for 9 months in a maximum security prison in Rezina, where those sentenced to life are also held.
